Have a ramble... The popular Wicklow Way, a 127km self guided walking trail, passes just 2km from The Skylark's Rest. We are a convenient accommodation option in Roundwood for anyone walking the Knockree - Roundwood or the Roundwood - Glendalaough sections of the Wicklow Way. A baggage transfer service operates the length of the Wicklow Way.
There is a wide range of other local walks, from the leisurely to the more challenging hill walking routes that are accessible from The Skylark's Rest, including walks around Lough Dan and Luggala (see below).
A small example of some of the walks in the area are listed below. We have information on these and many other walks available at the hostel to help you choose a walk suited to your interest level.
The Vartry Reservoir looped walk: Leaving from the hostel, this is a 10km looped walk in total. The majority of the walk follows the secluded path around the reservoir and so avoids road traffic. A map of this walk can be downloaded here
Lough Tay: This 13km walk, which is included as one of the top ten views in Ireland by Walking World Ireland, also includes some great views over Lough Dan. Download this walk here
Scarr and Lough Dan: The start of this walk is just 3km from the hostel. The walk itself offers excellent views of the Wicklow hills and is a firm favourite with walkers. You'll find more information about this walk here: http://www.wicklowwalks.com/scarr-loch-dan
Walks in Glendalough: Glendalough, the valley of the two lakes is 10km from us and has some of the most spectacular scenery in Ireland. There is a network of way-marked trails and walks around Glendalough that you can enjoy. More details of this network of walks is available here
